Position Summary:

We are building a community hospital in the Bronzeville area of Chicago and are looking for a Cardiology Nurse to join our growing team. This position plays a vital role in delivering world-class healthcare to patients within the Cardiology Department, including assisting with stress tests and providing direct nursing care during diagnostic procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct Nursing Care: Provide nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the department.
  • Stress Testing Procedures: Provide nursing care by assessing patients for pre-testing, including exercise stress testing, nuclear stress testing, stress echocardiograms (with or without the use of Definity), and Dobutamine stress tests.
  • Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for stress testing procedures, including conducting patient interviews, obtaining medical histories, and obtaining patient consent and signatures.
  • Patient Education: Conduct patient teaching related to nuclear imaging procedures, including explaining potential risks and complications.
  • Vitals and Monitoring: Assess the patient’s blood pressure, pulse, respirations, lung sounds, and establish Peripheral Intravenous (IV) access.
  • EKG Monitoring: Set up and monitor the patient through 12-lead EKG stress testing, identifying and interpreting EKG rhythms.
  • Emergency Care: Apply ACLS algorithms if patients experience heart problems or cardiac arrest during procedures, including administering resuscitation pharmacological agents, oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway placement, and suctioning.
  • Monitor Patient Conditions: Monitor the patient during testing to identify any changes in condition that would necessitate the termination of testing. Understand and act on contraindications, positive findings, medical reasons, or patient fatigue/tolerance.
  • General Cardiology Nursing: Provide general Cardiology Nursing duties in the Cardiology Department outside of the Cardiac Imaging Center duties as needed.

Must-Have Requirements:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of Illinois.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac catheterization procedures and care.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
  • Experience handling acute injuries and illnesses (experience in med/surg or OR background preferred).
  • Excellent patient care and nursing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience:

    • Previous experience in cardiology or a similar clinical setting preferred.
    • Experience with stress testing procedures and EKG interpretation is preferred.
