Position Summary:
As a Registered Nurse (RN) in our Telemetry/Medical-Surgical (Med-Surg) unit, you will be at the forefront of delivering direct patient care while monitoring and treating patients with cardiac and other medical conditions. This role demands critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure that each patient’s care plan is implemented and effectively managed. The Telemetry/Med-Surg RN will be expected to assess patients’ conditions, administer appropriate treatments, and maintain patient safety and satisfaction.
You will have the opportunity to utilize advanced nursing skills, including interpreting cardiac rhythms, and contribute to improving patient outcomes through continuous care monitoring. This is a 12-hour shift role for night shifts, and requires active participation in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety.
Key Responsibilities:
● Patient Care & Assessment:
○ Provide direct, competent, and compassionate nursing care to Telemetry and Med-Surg patients.
○ Assess signs and symptoms of changes in a patient’s condition and report to the physician.
○ Administer medications and treatments in line with patient care protocols and physician orders.
○ Monitor cardiac and other vital signs and respond to any immediate changes in the patient’s condition.
● Patient Education & Advocacy:
○ Educate patients and their families on lifestyle changes, diagnosis, medications, and discharge instructions.
○ Ensure patients and their families are well-informed about discharge procedures and follow-up care.
○ Advocate for patients in a professional, ethical manner while maintaining confidentiality.
● Collaboration & Teamwork:
○ Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to create and implement effective patient care plans.
○ Direct and guide unlicensed assistive personnel in providing interdisciplinary patient care.
● Quality Improvement & Compliance:
○ Actively engage in Quality Assurance/Process Improvement initiatives to ensure optimal patient safety and care outcomes.
○ Monitor compliance with infection control practices and core measures.
● Clinical Competency:
○ Collect blood specimens through venipuncture or micro techniques for diagnostic purposes.
○ Maintain proficiency in the operation of telemetry equipment, and ensure all clinical tasks are performed accurately and efficiently.
Qualifications:
● Education:
○ Associate degree from a professional nursing program (Required).
○ BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program at an accredited nursing school (Preferred).
● Licensing & Certifications:
○ Current Registered Nurse License in Illinois (Required).
○ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (Required).
● Experience:
○ 1 year of experience in clinical expertise in Telemetry or Med-Surg (Required).
○ Ability to work variable hours as needed, including 12-hour shifts.
Working Conditions:
● Hours: 12-hour shifts; Day Shift (7 AM – 7:30 PM) or Night Shift (7 PM – 7:30 AM).
● Flexibility to work various hours as required.
